The 'Friends of Bushey Museum' was formed in 1985 to support the Trust in all its activities, including the setting up and running of Bushey Museum, as well as providing a wider focus for anyone interested in the history of Bushey. There are at present around 800 members of the Friends. What you get and what you can do by joining the Friends
- A bi-monthly newsletter to keep you up-to-date with what the Friends are doing and planning together with all the latest news of the Museum.
- Free entry to regular talks and slide shows throughout the year. Topics range between Bushey and subjects of more general interest. Various social events are arranged for members and their friends including visits by coach from Bushey to Places of interest, an annual Quiz Evening and a Christmas Social. Full details are published in the newsletters.
- Friends play an essential part in the stewarding of Bushey Museum and in staffing the Museum Shop and also stands and sales tables at local events especially the Friends' annual summer Garden Party.
- Some members help with documentary research which is carried out on a regular basis at Bushey Museum in Rudolph Road.
- Interested members are encouraged to assist in carrying out our special projects on many aspects of Bushey life.
- Fund raising is an important part of the activities of the Friends - to purchase items for the museum and to provide display equipment, documentation for indexing and cataloguing of the collections, etc.
- The Oral History Group records memories of local residents, in order to build a picture of Bushey past and present. If you would like to help or are interested in taking part, please phone the Museum 020 8420 4057.
- In conjunction with the Museum Trust, the Friends have reproduced greetings cards and postcards of notable works of art relating to Bushey or by well-known Bushey artists.
- The Museum publishes books and pamphlets of local interest, both historical and relating to Bushey art and artists.
- Cards and other publications may be purchased from the well-stocked Museum Shop. They are also available from local shops.
- Active members have the opportunity to take part in a range of voluntary activities such as helping with the distribution of newsletters, packaging greetings cards, serving on book and card stalls etc. Others may prefer simply to attend meetings and social events or just keep in touch through the regular free publications.
