Our Meetings are open to all. If you are interested in a Friends visit but are not a member, please download a membership application. New members will receive the current Newsletter and Events Leaflet and be put on the mailing list for all future details.

Please note that Museum staff cannot answer enquiries about Friends events. The names and contact details of those responsible for booking social events, outings etc. are in the Friends events leaflet.

VISIT TO OLD SARUM AND SALISBURY

Saturday 23 June Coach departs Bushey (opp. Melbourne Road) at 9.00am and arrives back at approximately 6.00 - 6.30pm.

Guided tour of the Iron Age fort and Roman settlement of Old Sarum on its wonderful vantage point. Then we drive to Salisbury for lunch and to visit the Cathedral and/or Museum where the Rex Whistler archives are held. Visits to the Cathedral should be undertaken by 3pm as a service is due. VISIT TO KETTLES YARD, CAMBRIDGE

Saturday 15 September at 9.00am
Coach departs Bushey from the bus stop opposite Melbourne Rd
Whole day outing by coach. This site has been extended and enhanced this year. Between 1958 and 1973 it was the home of Jim and Helen Ede. Earlier Jim Ede had been Curator at the Tate Gallery. Thanks to his friendship with a wide group of artists, he had gathered a remarkable collection including works by Ben & Winifred Nicholson, Alfred Wallis, David Jones and Joan Miro with sculptures by Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. There is now a café and extended Gallery space. Entry free. It should also be possible to visit other Museums or just enjoy Cambridge. Coach arrives back at approx. 6.30pm.Cost £31.00 per person.

WAR AND WOMEN ARTISTS

Bushey Museum Art Curator, Pat Woollard gives a presentation on the role of women in war through the work of women artists, including Bushey artists Lucy Kemp-Welch and Ethel Gabain.

in the Meeting Room behind Bushey Museum
Bring something - Buy something and raise money for our Museum. Good quality items - unwanted gifts, toys, plants, cakes & produce, books, white elephants etc. (no electrical items). Items accepted in the meeting room only on Friday 28 September from 2pm to 4pm and until 10am on the day of the sale.

VISIT TO BROADWAY AND CHELTENHAM

Saturday 13 October at 8.30am
Coach departs Bushey from bus stop opposite Melbourne Rd
Whole day outing by coach.with the option of taking the steam train from Broadway to Cheltenham (12 miles). The Group will travel to Broadway for a short stay. At approx. 11.50am, travel to the Station to drop off those travelling by steam train to Cheltenham station where the coach will collect this Group; and all will travel into Cheltenham for the rest of the day. There is an interesting Museum, Gustav Holst's House and The Pump Room. Full information will be given on the coach. Coach leaves Cheltenham at 4.30pm to arrive back at approx. 6.30pm. Cost: Coach travel only, £30.00 per person; including optional travel by steam train £45.00 per person.

A RAILWAY FAMILY

Ann Rattue, local historian, tells the story of the Beattys of Bushey and Watford - not famous but part of the fabric of the district.

BUSHEY MUSEUM SILVER ANNIVERSARY DINNER

Tuesday 23 October at 7.00 for 7.30pm
at Blue Check Restaurant, Bushey
In October 1993 Bushey Museum and Art Gallery was opened. To celebrate our 25th anniversary we are holding a Dinner Party at the Blue Check Restaurant, High Street, Bushey. Tickets cost £35 each, to be sold on a first-come first-served basis only to Friends, who may also bring a partner.
