HISTORY OF POLICING IN BUSHEY

Ken Moxley was a serving Metropolitan Police officer for 35 years, including 25 years as our bobby in Bushey. He now has investigated the History of Policing in Bushey and produces evidence of interesting facts uncovered.

Frances Watkins, Medical Herbalist, member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (founded 1864) gives tips and recipes for making your own tonics.

Transport historian, Ian Read, explores how the coming of the railway changed Bushey.

VISIT TO STANLEY SPENCER GALLERY AND GREYS COURT, HENLEY (NT)

Thursday 21 March Whole day outing by coach
Coach departs Bushey from bus stop opposite Melbourne Rd at 9am
Travel to Cookham where we shall have tea/coffee, prior to Gallery tour at 11am. The group will divide - half into the Gallery for tour and remainder to have a walk around village to see where Stanley Spencer lived and vantage points for his paintings. At 1pm, we go by coach to Greys Court where lunch can be obtained prior to visiting the house and enjoying the grounds.Coach leaves Bushey from the bus stop opposite Melbourne Road at 9.00am and arrives back in Bushey at approx. 6pm. Cost: £47 per person. National Trust members: £36.00

John Pearson, international cheese judge and Cheese Personality of the Year (2011) describes some encounters with suppliers, impossible customers and will conclude with a short, tutored cheese-tasting.

VISIT TO FARLEYS HOUSE, EAST SUSSEX

Thursday 23 May Whole day outing by coach.
Coach departs Bushey from bus stop opposite Melbourne Rd at 9am
Farleys House was the home of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose, the home of the Surrealists. Lee Miller was a photographer and Roland Penrose, a painter. We shall join a tour of the House at 11.30am, lasting 50 minutes, after which there is the Sculpture Garden and lunch can be obtained in the Gallery. Coach leaves Bushey from the bus stop opposite Melbourne Road at 9.00am and arrives back in Bushey at approximately 6.00-6.30pm. Cost: £40.00 per person (No concessions)

VISIT TO GAINSBOROUGH'S HOUSE IN SUDBURY, SUFFOLK

Saturday 15 June Whole day outing by coach
Coach departs Bushey from bus stop opposite Melbourne Rd at 8.30am
We shall visit Gainsborough,s House, Museum and Gallery where we shall have coffee/tea & biscuits on arrival followed by an introductory talk at 11.30am. Members will then be able to explore the House, Museum and Gallery. Any refreshments at the house must be booked in advance - this has been done for coffee & tea on arrival. Alternatively it should be possible to find lunch in Sudbury and there should be time to explore the town. We then continue by coach to Braintree Museum to see the Exhibitions and tea break before setting out for home at approximately 4.00pm We shall leave Bushey at 8.30am arriving in Sudbury about 11.15am,to be at Gainsborough's House for 11.30pm.Coach leaves Bushey from the bus stop opposite Melbourne Road at 8.30am and arrives back in Bushey at approximately 6.30pm.Cost: £42.00 per person (price awaiting confirmation at the time of going to press)
