Chewett and Friends
An opportunity to see paintings from Reveley Lodge and Bushey Museum
The works are by a group of Herkomer students, Albert Ranney Chewett, Wynne Apperley, William Bennett, Marcus Holmes, Philip Le Cornu, and Arthur Potts, who studied together in the late 1890s and of two other artists, William Sims who was Chewett's brother-in-law and Andrew Gamley, a Scottish friend.
The group were of mixed origins: Canadian, Australian, English and Scottish and they did not remain together for long. Arthur Potts died in 1904, William Bennett was killed in action in 1915 and Wynne Apperley went to Spain on health grounds in 1916. Subject matter varies and includes Chewett's domestic paintings at Reveley Lodge, pictures of Venice, landscapes and Bennett's historic paintings of Bushey and Landsberg.
